We recently reviewed the “Tech & Law 2023” report from Thomson Reuters on legal innovation in Australia and New Zealand. While the findings weren’t entirely surprising, we did notice a few standout points that could easily be overlooked or strategically undervalued.
The report shows that people and performance are significant catalysts for technological change within the legal sector.
Specifically, on the “people” front, it appears there are two main dynamics at play: a concern about technology potentially overshadowing core legal skills, coupled with a forward-thinking drive to innovate and retain skilled professionals.
In terms of performance, the continued pressure on legal firms to deliver under fixed fee arrangements and demonstrate efficiency to clients through optimised processes remains a key driving force.
